Tregarne & Porthallow
Praise the LORD,
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
Who finds great delight in His commands,
Psalm 112:1
This walk is over fields and roads, parts of it may be quite muddy in wet weather. Length about 5 or 6 miles.

Leave St. Keverne Square towards Porthallow (Commercial Road) and almost immediately turn right down Well Lane, beside the house surrounded by painted farm implements, this goes past the Parish Hall. At the bottom of the hill cross the stile and go up the hill to another stile. Keep the hedge to your left across two fields. The third field goes quite steeply down with electricity poles in the middle of it See box in the right margin.. Aim for the pole near the bottom centre of the field, there is a stile close to it which gives access directly onto the road. (Take care here as the steps beyond the stile go down onto the road at a blind bend.)
If there are crops in the third field you may find that the farmer has left a path following near the line of poles, to get to this try skirting along the top hedge, keeping it to your right. If not follow the edge of the field with the hedge on your left, passing the first stile and turning along the bottom hedge.

Cross the road and take the lane opposite towards Tregarne. Pass the white gates of Tredinnic on your right and down the hill to Tregarne Mill at a double bend. Just past Tregarne Mill turn sharp left onto a footpath which leads past the back of the garden. Through two gates turn right, there is a footpath pointer on a post near the second gateway. Climb up this field with the hedge on your right, it is quite steep. Looking back you get good views of St. Keverne in the distance. Come to a stile with steps up to the next field which is reached by a short path under the bushes. Again keep the hedge on your right, again climbing to higher ground. At the top turn left still keeping the hedge to your right (Don't go through the gate). At the next corner go through the gate and still keep the hedge to your right. Good views over to Falmouth are seen from here. The path eventually comes to a short track which brings you out to the road at Tregarne. It is worth taking a look round here as there are a number of attractive buildings.

From the end of the track turn right. Past Chapel Cottage on your left take the track to the left past several cottages. Find a footpath at the end just beyond a thatched cottage. Cross the stile and keep the hedge on your left until you come to an electricity pole. About five yards beyond this is a stile on your left into what may be an old drovers road. Follow this until you come out onto a main road. See box in the right margin. Here turn right and then almost immediately right again to Halwyn and Tregarne, you will pass Halwyn holiday cottages and climb gently up a hill to a junction with the Tregarne road. There is a stile over into the field, keep the hedge to your right round several corners until you come to a gate with a stile on its right. Cross the lane beyond the stile and go into the next field by the stile opposite. You will have good sea views over Porthallow here. Go slightly right across the field, or if it is planted follow the hedge keeping it to your right and look for a stile which is somewhat hidden.

If you want to cut the walk a bit shorter instead of turning left past the cottage keep to the road until you meet the next junction to Halwyn on your left. Pick up the walk at the point where my info marker is placed.

Beyond the stile the footpath goes steeply down until it comes to some stone steps, keep left past the garden and meet a footpath coming from the left, turn right here onto it and come to a lane past houses on your right. Meet the road and turn left to come into Porthallow. Enjoy a few minutes rest on the beach then take the road out past the Five Pilchards pub, follow this road until you come to the small sewage disposal plant to the right. Just beyond this is a track to the right which leads into a field after about 400 yards. Bear slightly left round the top of the field to a stile giving onto a footpath between high hedges. Keep to this until you come to a cluster of buildings at Tregaminion and a made up road. Follow this for about 50 yards finding a kissing gate on your right and footpath round a garden. This leads out into a field where you will see a stile to your left. Over this the path goes diagonally right to another stile. Over this keep the hedge to your right, Over the next stile make diagonally left across the field, there is yet another stile and again go diagonally left to the far corner where there is access to the main road. Follow the road right for about 50 yards and find a stile on your left. Cross this into the field and keeping the hedge to your right cross several fields until the path drops down some steps and passes by a sort of coppice. Eventually you will come out past another sewerage works onto a track. Follow this and you will come to the stile at the bottom of Well Lane which will take you back to St. Keverne.
